Ace_Tip #2: "Hanging" boxes E-mail

In doing text books, I try to anchor as many elements as I can since images most-likely go hand in hand with the text. I do not however always want these images to go "inside" the text flow but rather in the margin or at least outside of the "visual" text area. We use to have such pictures "floating" in the page and we had to move them everytime we edited the text that went with it. not anymore...

Platform: Mac and PC
Applications:: Quark XPress
XTensions: none

The following trick will work with any anchored boxes (Picture, text or line).

Here's the procedure:
  1. Create a picture or text box containing the element you want to "extend" out of the text box.
  2. Change the tool to Drag Tool (The four-points arrow tool).
  3. Select the Edit > Cut menu.

    To cut an item you can also use the following application shortcut:
    In Macintosh: Command + X
    In Windows: CTRL + X

  4. Change the tool to Contents Tool (The Cursor/Hand tool).
  5. Select the text box that will contain the hanging element.
  6. Place the insertion point (click) where you want to insert that element.
  7. Select the Edit->Paste menu.

    To paste an item you can also use the following application shortcut:
    In Macintosh: Command + V
    In Windows: CTRL + V

  8. Select the box you have just pasted.
  9. Select the Item->Modify menu.

    To access the modify dialog for an item you can also use the following application shortcut:
    In Macintosh: Command + M
    In Windows: CTRL + M

  10. Select the Runaround tab.
  11. Set the values of the sides you want extending the text box to a negative value (The bigger the "absolute" value, the bigger the offset).

    The offset cannot be bigger than the box itself
