Some "hidden" keyboard shorcuts?
« on: September 11, 2007, 05:10:50 AM »
In the Help of Quark I saw some shortcuts using the modifier key CTRL. But I didn't see all of them.
I discovered 15 shorcuts (Quark Help shows, to what I've seen, like 5 of them). So here the list I made up just in case it might help you:
CTRL-A   <->   beginning of document (1st page)
CTRL-I   <->   insertion of a tab
CTRL-D   <->   end of document (1st page)
CTRL-H   <->   delete (the selection of text)
CTRL-L   <->   1 window down
CTRL-K   <->   1 window up
CTRL-M   <->   insertion of a return
CTRL-V   <->   scale field
CTRL-@   <->   insertion of a Zero
CTRL-' (apostrophe)   <->   straight apostrophe
CTRL-§   <->   cursor to next word
CTRL-ç   <->   cursor to previous word
CTRL-- (hyphen)   <->   cursor to next paragraph
CTRL-$   <->   cursor to next word
CTRL-£   <->   cursor to previous word
CTRL-(any F key)   <->   Export to PDF

This list was made up using a French keyboard on a French QuarkXPress Passport. Some of the shortcuts might not work with your configuration.
Feel free to confirm some of them or correct some of them.
Hope this helps!

Well, I never knew them - apart from the apostrophe ones. To which I can add:

CTRL-" (shift-apostrophe)   <->   'feet marks' - straight double quote.

Actually CTRL-' and CTRL-" over-ride Quark's 'Smart Quotes' preferences. If you've got Smart Quotes on, these will enable you to type straight quotes. If it's off, they produce curly ones!

Having lived without CTRL-I (hey, I just hit tab!) for more years than I can remember, I don't think I'll be adding them to my repertoire (my brain's full anyway). But nice to know they're there.

Some would definitely be useful for someone without an extended keyboard - page up and down, for example. I've actually got quite a few Quickeys assigned to CTRL-letter, as I thought Quark didn't use control for anything, but I was wrong!

Which doesn't work here!

I wasn't clear enough but that was mainly the reason for posting that list. (I assign in priority CTRL-[letter] to my Apple Scripts in Quark.) I didn't know some of them were already assigned.
As for the tab, I thought accross the Channel you would hit Ctrl-I  :P I'm kidding!  ;D

Shift F10 ~ toggles between the local page and the master from which it derives.

Of course in QX 6.5 it doesn't work consistently. But neat in theory...

Always seems to work for me. BTW, OPTN+F10 will cycle through each Master.

Also (love this thread BTW):

IN the document/page layout palette, select any page.
Option Click on a master page icon, and that master will assign itself to the selected page.

That last one is too cool. No more drag and drop of Masters on to layout pages for me.  :)

The big pity is it does not work any more with blank pages (it used to work back in version 4 as far as I remember).

Option-dragging a Master Page icon to the Layout pages (within the Layout palette) makes the Add Pages window come up. Good to know when you have several pages to add rather quickly ;-)

And new, as of 6 (I think):

command-option-shift V

Will paste a copied item with the exact (spread) coordinates as its original

I'm surprised how many people don't know about this one, but I don't know if its 'hidden'.
