Loosing Links

I've been using XCatalog for many years. But, I have always used it to update my documents from FileMaker.  Now, someone wants to make changes in Quark and push the text out to FileMaker.  Things work great if I am just editing some of the text within a link.  When I edit the entire contents of a link in QuarkXpress, the link itself is destroyed.

Is this just a weakness of XCatalog or am I doing something wrong?  My link type is "Key from text «"
