Import X-tagged text into Indesign with Javascript
« on: November 11, 2009, 11:38:30 PM »
Hi,

Normally we import text as X-Tag using Em Software plugin manually. We developed script for auto-pagination in Indesign. But we couldn't find any JS code to import X-tagged text anywhere. Is there any javascript code to import text with X-tag plugin? If so, kindly provide. It will be be helpful for us very much.

Thanks in advance.

regards
Masthan

I cannot speak about the Windows side but on macs, Xtags has an Applescript command for that task:

Quote
get text with xtags from
get text with Xtags from (verb) Interpret the contents of the given Xtags source (file alias or string), replacing the current insertion point or selection with the resulting text. (You must have a current document and a text box selected in XPress.) (from Xtags Suite)

Command Syntax
get text with Xtags from anything ¬
     quote conversion boolean ¬
     error reporting boolean ¬
     document updating boolean ¬
     tool defaults boolean

Parameters
ParameterRequired TypeDescription
direct parameterrequiredanything
document updating optionalboolean
error reportingoptionalboolean
quote conversionoptionalboolean
tool defaultsoptionalbooleanObtain a new box’s default settings from the document’s corresponding tool preferencesappropriate tools settings.

I have been using this for ages and it works flawlessly.
