Weird text box properties from selection...
« on: March 21, 2012, 09:40:35 AM »
Hi there,

A few weeks ago I had Quark 8 re-installed on my mac, so far so good. The other day I ran a small script to get the properties of a 'selected' text box and got the following:-

{class:text box, object reference:text box 1 of document "Project1" of application "QuarkXPress", layername:"Default", grid style:"", box grid attributes:box grid attributes 1 of text box 1 of document "Project1" of application "QuarkXPress", anchored:false, background trap:default, color:color spec "Yellow" of document "Project1" of application "QuarkXPress", content:text content, box type:text box type, index:1, locked:false, name:null, rotation:«data FX° 00000000», runaround:none runaround, selected:true, shade:«data FX% 00000100», box shape:rectangular, suppress printing:false, uniqueID:5, text outset:«data FRPT00000000000000000000000000000000», polygon points:null, storage:null, location lock:false, size lock:false, delete lock:false, modify lock:false, opacity:«data FX% 00000100», blend:{angle:«data FX° 00000000», color:color spec "White" of document "Project1" of application "QuarkXPress", shade:«data FX% 00000100», style:solid blend, opacity:«data FX% 00000100»}, bounds:«data FRMS00006500C86693007ECBB7001C003A01», corner radius:null, flipped horizontal:false, flipped vertical:false, frame:{color:color spec "Black" of document "Project1" of application "QuarkXPress", gap color:null, gap shade:«data FX% 00000100», inside trap:default, outside trap:default, shade:«data FX% 00000100», style:solid line, width:«data F_TH00000000», gap opacity:«data FX% 00000100»}, skew:«data FX° 00000000», columns:1, first baseline minimum:ascent baseline, first baseline offset:«data FXVM00000000», gutter:«data FXHM00000C00», inter para max:«data FXVM00000000», runaround all sides:false, text angle:«data FX° 00000000», text inset:«data F_IN00000000», text skew:«data FX° 00000000», vertical justification:top justified, box overflows:false, box wraps:false, next text box:null, previous text box:null}

I'm not sure if it's something with my script or the Quark installation but I can't remember seeing this sort of thing before:-
«data FX% 00000100»
«data FXVM00000000»
«data FRMS00006500C86693007ECBB7001C003A01»

Please can someone help out?

Thanks in advance,

Nick

As far as I know, when just a part of the values show as data, it means that those data can't be read in the current version you're using. Check QuarkXPress dictionary to ensure you have access to those fields. If you do, then make sure no extension is needed for that.
If everything is supposed to work regularly, then you'll probably want to relaunch both Script Editor and QuarkXPress. HTH.

Hi Jean-Marie,

Thanks for the help with my query. I'll have a look at the dictionary to see what I should be using!

Regards,

Nick

Oh! wait a minute! I’ve just read Emma’s message on Quark forums: http://forums.quark.com/t/25735.aspx
There might be your solution.
Isn’t it all funny?

Thanks Jean-Marie, spot-on! That's sorted it.

For anyone else here's Emma's solution:-

ApplescriptEditor must be set to 'Open in 32 bit mode' (via Info box from application icon).

Come to think of it, my machine had it's system updated not so long ago!
