Title: Unable to connect to new Quark forum
Post by: Jean-Marie Schwartz on June 02, 2008, 11:00:13 AM
Hi guys!
I jealously see some of you are connected to the new forums at Quarks but on my side I can't manage to login.
The message I get is: "Invalid User Credentials. The username and/or password cannot be validated, or your account is locked out or has not been approved yet." (Though I kept the info from 2004 and everything is OK.)
So I've asked for recovering my password. I got an email with a link but when I click it I get another message: "Access Denied. You do not have permissions to perform the requested action."

What's up over there? Is this one of the new anti-terrorist US action against brave Belgians? Or is it just normal and I simply have to create a brand new login?

Jean Marie, how have you gone on with this are you in yet? I got the email about resetting my password had no issues getting on. Have had one or two with the new site but these are known to the webmaster and hopefully they will be resolved quickly.

Thank you for the interest you take.
Unfortunately I've got no news so far. I'll let you know.

I see you've made yourself a new temporary account until it gets resolved. I would imagine they will have a lot on at the moment with the switch. Good thing is a few of the issues that I was having have already been fixed which is a positive sign. I would agree with Michel and keep out the Belgains unless bribed with chocolate.

In my dialect we say: "C'est todi les p'tits qu'on spotche" (quite untranslatable, like "the small are always smashed" or so).
Hum! Then what? Shall I create a brand new account named "Leonidas" or "Galler" or so with a nice avatar like this one (http://lapingourmand.com/images/chat-geluck-galler.jpg) or this one (http://www.doopsuiker-leonidas-wevelgem.be/images/pralines_leonidas.gif) or this one (http://lapingourmand.com/images/chat-geluck-galler.jpg)?
Just let me know and I'll see what I can do!

Damn!!!

Looks like the filter does not work here!  ;D

Yes, I could see where "chocolate bribes" would advance your cause...

Kidding aside, I experienced a small "hickup" w/r to my user-account too but as soon as I got though the "forgotten password" scenario, everything cam back as normal... Too bad for them, I keep coming in with new stuff to think about!  ;)

how do I get the chocolate?
glad to see they let you back in to the forums.

As Belgium failed to qualify, who are you supporting for Euro2008?

I'm going for Switzerland... because of the chocolate.
I'm also going for Number 9 in our office sweepstake, but I'll find out which team is 9 tomorrow.

Well, exclusively here in my avatar. That's a "plus" from this forum. You'll only get my face on the other one.  :P

:) Thank you! Though I did manage earlier using all my cleverness and faking an Unwanted guy (Quark cannot suffer Unwanted forum users  ;) ).

No one.  :P (Though my wife is French. I'll have to see. When we got married late June 1998, we went on Honeymoon to Cuba where people caught at once we are "French". The first time a Cuban asked me if I were French I said "No, I'm a Belgian". He soon made me understand Belgium was not so good in the World Cup at that time... Hum! I then said I'm French  :-\ )
Plus Justine gave up. Roland Garros is no more interesting to me  :'(

What? Do you want me to kick you out?  ;D

They made the sweepstake draw this afternoon so I'm supporting the Netherlands now, I think I'll have to buy something orange 8)

(This is more of a Sofa Thread  ::) )
The kind of cans in the avatar are full of chocolates called "Langues de Chat", named after the famous "Le Chat" (a sort of philosophical cat with typical belgian humour - great!), designed by Philippe Geluck.
Though belgian beer is very good too  8)

No comment (I don't know why but I dislike Holland and orange... Maybe sth very deep in my unconscious back to time when Holland took over Namur  >:( - like back in the 17th  :-\ - Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Siege_of_Namur)).

Man! Congratulations!
Can you imagine? 3-0 against the World Champions!!! I can't believe it! I'd have bet 0-3 for Italy  :'(
Well it's only the first match of a long series. France and Romania still to come. Keep in touch.

Hi Jean Marie, yes wow, good result for Holland, and, they looked really good too. I'm thinking I have some chance of winning some money, but as you say, early days yet. Spain Germany and Portugal have all impressed too.

Any body else having troubles with the Quark Forums this morning? Every time I try load a specific page/thread then I get:

Oops something went wrong!

Either the site is offline or an unhandled error occurred. We apologize and have logged the error. Please try your request again or if you know who your site administrator is let them know too.

Im using Safari 3.0.4

Good to see them play in that mancunian rain last night.  ;D

I was on my way to post the same thing. Plus I got logged out again with a big "Access denied" each time I try to log in back  >:( Even under my "Unwanted" identity  >:( >:(
So I've tried to create still a new account like Unwanted the Return, but no way!

MICHEL!!! Stop stopping us poor Belgians!!!  ;D

I'm getting the ooops message too, at first I thought it was a Firefox3 thing but Safari is doing the same, i guess they are down due to maintenance.
Incidentally did you get to see the new web pages about quark8, still pretty vague, no new sabout transparency OUt or a seps preview so i guess they are not going to happen :(

OK "Old World Country People" one at a time please and do try to keep your place in line!
Hey you with the chocolate, get back in line and dial it down a bit.

 ;D

As much as I would like too say that I was responsable for what is happening,I just can't for I am experiencing the same thing. Not for all post though, it would seem that trying to access an unread thread (or thread with unread posts in it) is throwing an error. Somebody probably hcnaged something that messed up the link to those new posts.

Oh well, you can wait here if you want...

Coffee anyone?

Belgian beer = Excellent
Belgian chocolate = Excellent
Belgian football = Exc***ent

I noticed the same issue Michel not all post but the modified threads. Oh well white with 1/2 sugar.

Still when they fix this glitch I think its better than Adobe's forums which is a right mess and they made an even bigger mess of switching that over had to revert back to the old one.

Glenn, are the belgian beers and chocolates on you as your team is looking like they could do the business for you.

BTW my quark profile has you down as a fan how I laughed… I hope you were just testing new features!

Its strange to be asking on this forum, I know, but the new quark forum being so crap with Safari is beginning to grate.

I fear Jean-Marie may choke if I offered him some of my Father's Day Toblerone ;D

As for the Dutch, it's a game of 2 halves as they say, but I hear that if they win 4-1 tonight and France v Italy is 1-1 its going to be decided by coeffecients.
Surely the temptation to lose to Romania and put out both France and Italy is just tooooo much to resist.

Come on! Don't be like that! I love and prefer by far Belgian chocolates, BUT I could ea-si-ly eat Toblerones, would they be your Father's Day  ;D (I'm also fathering children, I know what it is  ;D )
I think you'll find my address where to send them in my profile. If not, send me a PM...  ;)

Man! I don't own a TV personally but I'll be looking at France-Italy tonight at my Mum's who is off for a couple of days! (A bet is on between my French BUT dear wife ( ::)) and I - yes, I'm still supporting Italy and just am amazed as how Buffon -the well named- let so many balls getting into his net! Getting old?).
I have in mind some of the previous matches between them two (the last one I remember being of course the World Cup Final, but back in 2000 France then won with a lot of luck too...). I really don't know what to expect toniht even if I'd like Italy to be winning. No pronostics though.
This said The Netherlands are very impressive! I remember a nice broadcast like 20 years ago showing all the goals by Van Basten and Gullit at that time. It was really a-ma-zing! And wonderful! I somehow recognize Van Basten in Holland's way of playing this year.

When you set someone to be a "friend" then this friend sees you as being a "fans" on his/her side. I would believe this will remain as such as long as the "relationship" is a one-sided affair  :D

larsen67 I'm not seeing you as a Quark Fan, perhaps its only one sided, I'll remove you as a friend today and check if anything changes.

Jean-Marie I don't believe Italy got through, hope it doesn't come back to haunt the Dutch in the Semi's. Yes I have 2 children, Kate 8 and Ryan 5. I'm afraid they ate most of the toblerone yesterday.

Michel, the online status thing makes sense. Also could you send me an e-mail direct I think the company spam filter is stopping forum topic reply notifications, could you tell me the domain name i need to unblock, Thanks.

I was surprised to see van persie & robben play expected the give away although this would have caused a major upset.

Michel, thanks. I'm at the mercy of an external company for our company PC support, they put in a new server lost the spam white-list, have turned spam protection on and off so many times my head hurts, today I'm getting practically nothing, and being on a mac can't do anything but read and complain to them.

Glenn, I would have to agree. Unless Im doing this wrong I can score a thread by adding those star things but not rate the individual who helped. I much prefer the system here. It means that you need to supply a "web path" to your avatar. There is a number free web solution that will let you upload a picture that you can point to.

if you right click on the web page image you can Copy image address, then paste into Michel's URL field.
Its got to be already hosted on the web somewhere.

Enabling Web sharing like this will open your mac's ability to publish web pages. However, there is more to it than that. Being on a local area network often mean that the IP address allocated to your mac will ONLY WORK from within that same network. If they are any competent, your network administrator has shielded you from the internet while exposing just a few machines to the outside world.

You probably know this but when, from your mac, you ask to see a webpage, your mac sends a request to a machine that has both accesses to the outside and inside world. That machine will get the webpage for you and send it back to you according to your local IP. But for this to work, in a basic situation, you have to initiate the transaction.

Of course there are way to circumvent that (on your side) with the help of your Admin by "punching a hole" into your Firewall. Doing this your Admin will assign a PORT to you and redirect any traffic made to that port to your machine. I have to tell you though that most administrator are squeamish about doing this as they lose the "integrity" of their Firewall. In essence, any malicious intents going through "your" port would have to be dealt with by your machine or else they will have access to your whole network.

That said, it is much simpler to register for a free web hosting account where you could upload your avatar. Chances are, if you have access to the Internet from your home, it is very likely that your basic package from your service provider includes a small web presence area. You could also ask your admin to put it on a webserver that has access to the Internet.

Glenn, I had made by own custom Avatar (being as silly as I am) so I have no web source to cut & paste from.

Michel, That is pretty much as I expected our studio mac system is linked into our PC system before going out to the net. We now have no internal PC admin to be able to port me through the firewall and its something I want to stay well clear of doing myself. Like I say its no big deal (it must have taken longer to write your reply than I spent making it)

I resized to 100x75pix and still won't let me load file directly

Let this be and end to this…

BTW I have scored penalties against both Alex Stepney (1 out of 3) & Joe Corrigan (1 out of 3) when I was about 8 although I do think they let us get at least one each (never could play)

"and it better be good after all this fuss" nope… and all what fuss I said in my last post it wasn't worth the effort I had already given up on it and only wasted 2 minutes.

here is what I tried:

Hummm.... It worked for me, see!

Actually, the path you have supplied is for the page itself not the image, What you need to paste into the appropriate field is :
http://www.imagechicken.com/uploads/1213889048058616200.gif
and save your preferences

Your profile pic will stay put as long as that path is functional.

Oh and if you tried to upload your Avatar its maximum size should not exceed 80x80 (pixels)

Michel, I tried using the URL cut and paste from the "Forum Code" of the 3 options available. (Not the link I posted) I got the size of an Avatar from another image hoster where an option was to resize the image to 100x75 Oh well thanks any way. You and Glenn both get + karma for patience… (told you it wasn't worth it)

Glenn, you are too old to be playing with guns

Hey Michel, whats happened there all of a sudden I have no Avatar & you pinched it? Hand it back or I'll be taking my karma back!!! (do I need to clear a cache to fix this)

the size of an Avatar...  in a deep voice

so now we've moved on from the Muppets to the Banana Splits, do you remember the Arabian Nights cartoon?

Glenn, you are too old to be playing with guns.
Am still trying to figure out whether I'm older than you, am guessing that 67 is not your D.O.B. but will have to google as to when Alex Stepney retired.

had to share this about Mr Stepney

(1974-75). During this time, Alex suffered a freak injury when he dislocated his jaw shouting at fans behind his goal.
 ;D

Glenn, you are quite correct 67 is my year of birth (making me 40  :o) I scored my goals about 74-75. Alex Stepney most likely injured his jaw laughing at my pathetic shooting skills. Unfortunately I do remember the Banana Splits.

Man, I loved Banana Splits and Friends show when I was a kid. Now that's great kids television, unlike the crap that's on TV nowadays.
